The Challenge

American Traffic Solutions is one of the most important companies supporting road safety in the United States and Canada today. In order to continue to be a leader in their industry, ATS requires significant enhancements and support for their existing applications and infrastructure.

An outside team was required to execute these business needs. When bringing on an outside team, ATS was looking for one that approaches solutions based on their principles: integrity, grace, and servant leadership.

A specific need ATS had was to make improvements to their robust and secure web-accessible platform by improving performance and creating management reporting and analytical tools for their customers.

The Solution

Proximity was tasked to develop and deliver these enhancements and improvements for ATS. The team at Proximity follows scrum-based Agile software development and test-driven development as part of their good practices and framework where the client gets full visibility into the development cycle, including constant line of communication, frequent exchange of artifacts and builds, and real time collaboration.

The Results

Initially, ATS worked under a waterfall approach to manage projects. Proximity’s team followed an Agile approach. After Proximity’s successful completion of a project, ATS found that the Agile methodology delivered tangible, testable software at regular intervals. ATS has changed to the Agile approach.

The team at Proximity works as an extension of various teams and projects within ATS, implementing Agile mindset and test driven development as a normal common language between the teams.

Proximity continues to work with ATS by supporting the implementation of current and new customers, and improving the process through automation with one of our engineers and the client. Through a collaborative effort, Proximity created unique functionality and services such as Radar Service and a new handheld device, ATS StreetSafe, with complex algorithms to calculate velocity, distance and mathematical formulas, and image conversion which involved multiple and robust technologies, such as:
